September Flight along WA-OR Coast

Coast Range South of Astoria
Long Beach, OR
At this point I can't help but think, "if I just keep heading West, how far could I make it"?
Looking West to the confluence of the Columbia River

It was a good trip where I got to land @ 3 new airstrips; West Port, WA - Willapa Harbor, WA - Astoria, OR. Each one had a slightly different x-wind component to deal with, which is always good practice!

Damage Control

O.K. So when I saw the less than flattering shot of me and my bald head by the lake, (which Shannon dedided to post for all the world to see) I decided I better put up some more interesting pics, to draw attention away and lessen the sting.

This one I believe is a very severe case of "bad luck"!

This one simply reaffirms the statement "there is no accounting for taste".
And finally, just when you think you know what is NOT good moose habitat...
Or a very scary snapshot into a future of unchecked global warming...

See, now I bet no one even remembers my ever expanding forehead. Whew!

Indian Heaven

We went backpacking into Indian Heaven Wilderness this weekend, but the weather was not so heavenly. There was a constant foggy soup that turned to rain the second day. I was soaked...
...luckily I married a true outdoorsman who got a warm fire going despite the wet wood and my shoes and self got dried out! Doc was happy to get out of the heat in Portland.

Yes, AJ is now on propecia, so hopefully we'll regain some ground soon...

We went to Sun River, OR for our annual Dermatology Meeting. We rented a couple of houses right on the Deschutes River. Aj and I thought we were getting this little one in the picture all to ourselves, "The Love Shack"; but our plans were foiled by a booking error...
...the rental company didn't inform the owners that they had rented the cabins for the weekend, so the owners showed up and shared the little cabin with one bathroom with us, what fun!

Doc loved being right on the river and having so many buddies to play with. You can always tell who the dermatologist is...or not.
We had some very sleepy dogs on the drive home.

Fourth of July weekend we headed up to the Olympia Penninsula Wilderness with our good friends Darin and KaLynne from Boise/Utah. We had beautiful weather and got some good exercise!

Flight to Hood River with stop @ Cascade Locks

Took advantage of some great flying weather and hit two strips I've been wanting to visit in the Gorge, Hood River and Cascade Locks.
Though I didn't get a good shot of the strip, Cascade Locks is a beautiful little strip right on the Columbia, but I do mean little as it only weighs in at 1800X30ft!
FUN!

A Few more Fly-Out shots

I thought this bridge at Astoria, spanning the Columbia River where it finaly meets the ocean was picture-worthy.
I found there are a number of airstrips along the coast that I need to visit. This is one of them, KAST
A last pic of our departure from Hoquiam, WA

Fly-Out to Seattle, Hoquiam, Astoria

It started out a wee bit cloudy... I got to practice flying with instruments in real IFR.
Conditions improved as we neared Seattle
It was even clear enough we got to watch the submarine races!
The Washington Oregon Coast was beautiful
